Basic Explanation of Bitcoin, Ravencoin, IPFS, and how Project 33 has been using them.

Bitcoin: Digital currency via a decentralized system that records transactions in a distributed public ledger called a blockchain.

The BTC network is backed by thousands of Bitcoin miners who run computer rigs to solve complicated mathematic puzzles in an effort to confirm groups of transactions called blocks; upon success, these blocks are added to the blockchain record and the miners are rewarded with a small number of BTC. Other participants in the Bitcoin market can buy or sell tokens through cryptocurrency exchanges or trade peer-to-peer.

Ravencoin

Ravencoin is a peer-to-peer blockchain, handling the efficient creation and transfer of assets from one party to another. Ravencoin is a protocol based on a fork of the Bitcoin code which adds features specifically focused on allowing tokens to be issued on the Ravencoin blockchain. These tokens can have whatever properties the issue of the token decides - so they can be limited in quantity, named, and be issued as securities or as collectibles.

InterPlanetary File System (IPFS)

The Inter Planetary File System  (IPFS) is a  protocol  and  peer-to-peer  network for storing and sharing data in a  distributed file system. IPFS uses  content-addressing  to uniquely identify each file in a  global name space  connecting all computing devices. [3]

IPFS allows users to not only receive content, but also to host content in a similar manner to  BitTorrent. As opposed to a centrally located server, IPFS is built around a decentralized system of user-operators who hold a portion of the overall data, creating a resilient system of file storage and sharing. Any user in the network can serve a file by its content address, and other peers in the network can find and request that content from any node who has it using a  distributed hash table  (DHT).

How Project 33 uses Ravencoin and IPFS store and share data

In 2019 we created 265 Project 33 Ravencoin 10 Art Unit glass coins and tokenized them by minting unique NFT’s tied to each coin. Each individual coin was serialized, weighed, photographed, then tokenized with all of the data attached to it via IPFS. Our NFT’s act as a digital certificate of authenticity that can be redeemed by the receiver of the physical Art Units via a security code that comes with each glass coin. Every NFT is verifiably unique, and is meant to stay with the true owner of the physical coin as it circulates.

The YOU ARE NOT ALONE Art Units are also tokenized the same way.

However, for our THANK YOU FOR BEING US Art Units, instead of creating unique NFT’s, we utilized Ravencoins Sub Asset function to create 547 fungible THANK YOU FOR BEING US digital tokens each with the same IPFS hash containing videos and pictures of the coin being made, along with pictures of each individual coin!

Click on the pictures below to see all IPFS data associated with each of these three Art Units.

Huge shout out to Adam Bull (push) for supporting Project 33 IPFS data pinning.
